Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in Montana

Do lawyers keep records of how will was settled?

My great grandfather passed in 1990. The will split everything 6 ways. Now there is question to if that was done. Does the lawyer who handles the will keep records such as checks or bank records as to who actually got what? If so, is there a way to find out?

Lawyers may or may not keep records that long, depending on the firm's document retention policy. But courts also keep records, and are far less likely to have destroyed them. I would contact the court that presided over your great grandfather's probate.

Best regards,

Anthony
