Legal Question in Bankruptcy in Nebraska
Bankruptcy and chex systems
I recently filed bankruptcy. I just received my discharge papers in the mail today. One of the accounts that I filed on was a overdrawn bank account. This account is reported to chex systems. My question is, since this debt has been discharged and I no longer owe this money, will it show up on a chex systems report as being taken care of? This information is keeping me from getting a checking account and a savings account. Will filing bankruptcy allow me to write checks where I was unable to before, such as a large department store, will this clear my record with such places as telecheck or scancheck? Thanks

Re: Bankruptcy and chex systems
The account will be showed as cleared, but telecheck can report that it was paid via discharge in bankruptcy--reporting negative information that MIGHT keep banks and stores from letting you get an account or write checks. I haven't heard from any of my clients about whether or not they had any trouble writing checks after discharge, so I don't know for certain how it will affect you. Many of my clients have found that US BANK will let prior and pending Bankruptcies open accounts. Hope this helps. Wish I could tell you more!
