Force? If you mean can they fire you if you don't provide the information, the answer is generally yes. As an employee, you don't have many rights to personal privacy while you are at work. On the other hand, the people who they have collected information about, who are not their employees, may very well have a privacy interest that has been invaded. Some businesses face severe competition who have an interest in their business methods. Those businesses may often forbid employees to have a cell phone on their person while at work. It doesn't sound like this is the type of company I would care to work for under any circumstances, but it is difficult to know whether or not you may have a cause of action based on the information provided.
