looking at other people's e-mails
is it legal to have someone look at your personal e-mails without them having your permission?

It depends on the circumstances.If you are referring to an employer who reads the e-mail of employees on company computers, it happens frequently and is generally legal. You would need to pay a lawyer to review your particular situation and provide you with a legal opinion.
