My friend has been arrested for burglary
My friend was arrested for burglary, the police officer has been harassing him for i think 2 months now telling him that he was gonna go to jail. My friend let the police officer search his house. He gave the police officer the name of the person who probably did it. I don't think the police officer even checked out the name. The officer did not even listen to my friends full story. The woman who's apt. it was said before that she did not want to press charges. The officer followed my friend from his house to down the street before he pulled him over. My friend does not know what to do, he has never been arrested before and he cannot afford an attorney. He thinks that the officer was maybe discriminating against him because he is a homosexual. Any advice would help.

Re: My friend has been arrested for burglary
Your friend should call in all the debts others owe him, seek loans from a bank or friends and family, and examine whether he has anything he can get a loan against to fund his defense. If he can't afford an attorney, he should request an attorney be appointed to defend him immediately. He should say nothing to anyone about the facts in the case until he speaks with an attorney. He should not speak with police, nor should he trust anyone in jail with any information about himself, his charges, any alibis or defenses. He should not even explain things to his mother/father/lover!!! [other than to tell them where he is, what the charges are and to ask for help.]
Once he hires an attorney, or is appointed one, he should tell him/her everything [and I do mean everything!] about the case. He should then ask them to explain the criminal trial process, what defenses are available to the charges, and what information the attorney will need from him to prepare his case. He should follow the attorney's advice, or get another. DO NOT TRUST other inmates, pals etc. when they give their free legal advice, it is often not even worth the price paid [nothing]
