Legal Question in Family Law in Nebraska
I was engaged and have an auto loan with both our names on it.....I can't afford this car and am upside down so I can't trade it. What are my options?
He wants the engagement ring back, and says he is entitled to it and will take me to small claims court if I don't return it. I want to sell the ring for cash to put down towards a different car, so we can get rid of this vehicle and be rid of the loan in both our names. I don't want to get in legal trouble by selling the ring if he is right.

Case law indicates the engagement ring is a gift, contingent on marriage. In other words, it's only a gift and your to keep when you fulfill your end of the deal, which is marriage. Sorry- you will most likely have to give it back!
As far as the car goes- talk to the dealer about your situation and see what they can do for you. No easy solution in family law for that.
