Legal Question in Intellectual Property in Nebraska

copyright infringement

I am soon to launch a arab online social community website. I would like to play arabic music on the site, but fear copyright infringement. I was told there is no infringement if the music was produced in the Middle East as they do not have the copyright laws we have in the US. I need to confirm this. THe music I have selected to play was entirely produced in the ME, but I don't want to play the music and fear suit. I downloaded the music from an arabic music sharing site and they do not have a terms of use statement on the website. Thank you so much for your reply.

Re: copyright infringement

First: How will you be generating revenue? Will you be selling any of the music from your site?

Second: You would be erring on the side of caution to obtain permission from the producers of the music. How were the sources of the music identified on the site where you downloaded it?

Third: You should include TOU language on your site concerning copyright issues covering the music being played, and that all rights are reserved by the (c) holders.

Call or email for further asistance.

You do NOT want to become involved in copyright litigation.

Re: copyright infringement

I absolutely agree with Mr. Anderson's response. I'll add that copyright may have attached in the US or other countries, even if it does not attach in the Arab world. Licensing music is relatively painless; copyright litigation, in any country, is not.
