roomate will not pay rent

i rent and i let a friend stay with me. my friend will has not paid rent in over 5 months. he is not on the lease and the police said that they could not do anything to get him out of my apartment. what can i do. can i just change the locks and if he breaks in call the police for breaking or entering??

wAS THERE AN AGREEMENT FOR HIM TO PAY RENT?

yOU SHOULD HAVE THE LL EVICT HIM.
