All I want to know is who would be the top ten rated attorneys setting up wills in the North Platte Nebraska area rating the best as #1 and so on? It's been a long time since my parents have needed an attorney and we would like to know who is know as the best in this field in our area?

Re: Who's the Best?

This is not something I would trust to an internet bulletin board. I answer only to give you some suggestions of how to make your own decision.

First, when looking for an attorney, you want to match your needs to the skills and the costs of the attorney. You don't need a brain surgeon to put a band aid on you, and you don't need "the best" or "top ten" attorney to do a simple will. If your parents own a business, a partnership, a farming operation, have an adult child who needs someone to care for them or manage their money, or if their estate is large (over 1.3 million dollars, roughly) then they will need more than a simple will. They need someone who is knowledgeable about wills and estates as well as tax ramifications of estate planning.

Look for attorneys who are members of the ABA Real Estate and Trusts division, or similar organizations. Ask people whose opinion you trust in the community about attorneys they have used. If you know another attorney who may not do estate work, ask whom they would recommend.

Finally, interview some leading candidates. Feel free to ask lots of questions about their backround, their work, their fees and costs, and what they would propose to do for your parents. If your parents are uncomfortable with the attorney, seek someone else. Finally, you might consider attorneys from elsewhere in Nebraska if the issues are difficult enough. Modern communication makes this sort of work much easier than it was in the past. If you really need a top 10 guy or gal, you might have to travel. Good attorneys are found all over the state, but they are not evenly distributed.
