Hit and Run Consequences

I was done grocery shopping at a store and proceeded to my car in the parking lot. As I left my parking space within my car, the angle I reversed to get out of my parking space was to sharp and my front bumper connected with the side of another car. The other car had no person in it and I didn't think I did any damage. I corrected my angle then admittedly left the sceen without looking any closer. I guess I was thinking the last thing I need right then was another stress on top of the stresses I've already been having (with school, 2 jobs, the possibility of my fiance having to look for another job, and a wedding). I believe its been about 2-3 weeks now and received a letter from the police department in an investigation of a hit and run involving my vehicle. I want to tell them the truth right out. Is there anything I should try to do before I talk to them to help rectify the problem? What type of consequence can come about because of incident?
