Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in Nebraska
Personal representative without supervision
My Aunt was appointed Personal Representative without supervision for a $46,000 life insurance policy belonging to my deceased Grandmother. My siblings and I are named as heirs to this estate. Does she have any legal responsibility to pay us as heirs? Once the court approves, what's the turn around time for distributing the asset?

Re: Personal representative without supervision
Life insurance proceeds generally pass outside the estate. It depends on who was named beneficiary to the policy. If grandmother left a valid will, assets of the estate are distributed among the named heirs after all expenses, taxes, and debts of the estate have been paid according to the terms of the will. In Nebraska, probate procedures frequently last up to a year and sometimes longer.
