Legal Question in Technology Law in Nevada

Domain Purchase

I purchased a domain from Godaddy which had a website attched to it for about 3 years. Apparently the website owner did not renew the domain and I purchased it when it became available. I did nothing with the domain for a few months as I wasnt sure what direction I wanted to go with it. I recieved a few offers to sell the domain name as the name itself is very marketable. I contacted the old owner of the domain and offered to sell it back to them as I knew they had a site previously. However, they accused me of stealing the domain and they even accued their former webmaster of stealing the domain. I obtained the domain legally from Godaddy, but the website owners are threatening to sue me. I found that the owners of the website never did have the domain it their name, just the website. Can I be sued? I have proof that my transaction with Godaddy is legal and legitimate.

Re: Domain Purchase

Yes they can sue and they may well prevail. I would need to review entire legal picture with you to provide a legal opinion but you may have stumbled into a dangerous territory of TM infringement.
