Not, but others like death penalty usually do. Still, there is paperwork involved, it's just that someone else does it.
The system isn't going to check itself, you have to do it. The only reason death penalties are appealed is that it is a reasonable assumption that people don't want to die.
But it's not reasonable to assume they don't want to stay in jail until they die.
Go figure.
