Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Nevada

Collection agency has wrong person and refuse to fix mistake

I was trying to get financing but was rejected. When I checked my credit. A collection agency had a claim. When I researched the claim I found out that it was actually for my father. We share the same name. When I called them to explain they had the wrong person they said they needed to verify where they actually got my S.S. number. All they had was a contract with my Father's business name & his name & signature. When they couldn't find any evidence as to which person it was, they then said that in order to clear myself, my Father would have to go and sign a payment agreement. I even had my Father call them and explain that it was in fact him who signed the contract and he even provided his personal info including his S.S. number. When I asked for proof that it is me. They refused to do anything. They are holding my credit hostage to get my father to pay. I requested an investigation with the credit bureau to dispute and I'm writing letters to the BBB and the collection agency. What else can i do?

It sounds like you have a good case under the Fair Debt Collection Act. You will probably have to sue them. Call me at 702-454-2111 and we can see if it would be a good case to teach them a lesson.
