Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Nevada

crdit card debt

I am an authorized user and responsible for major debt on my dad's credit cards. I am trying to reduce them and pay them off. In the meantime, can his social security income, retirement fund or bank accounts be garnished? he is 80 years old and in a nursing home. How can I keep him from being harrassed by mail and phone calls from these companies? He is aware of the debt but obviously does not want to be responsible for it...nor should he be. I want all the responsibility for it and need to know how to go about it.

Re: crdit card debt

Under the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act you need to send them a letter stating that no further communication can take place. This will only apply to collection agencies and not if the credit card company itself is doing the phone calls and letters. You will probably have to have your grandfather sign the letter.

They can take his bank accounts only after they sue him.
