Re: Debt Collection
You need to file an answer to the lawsuit, simply sending letters to the attorney does not stop the lawsuit. You would then meet with the judge to discuss discovery, depositions, etc. and it is at that time, you can state the amount owed.
If an attorney that you hire makes a written offer of judgment to settle and the creditor doesn't get more in a trial, you can get fully reimbursed for you attorney's fees. There is a real possibility that your attorney would not cost you at all, but any attorney would require you to pay up front and the refund would come back to you in the end.
