Does a debt collector have to report payments accuraly to the creditor when the account has been assigned to the debt collector?

Yes they do. Or, if they don't and you dispute it you have a perfectly valid lawsuit. Keep all your receipts, canceled checks, a diary of your phone calls with dates and time, copies of letters and emails. After the collection agency lies, and the almost all will lie to get more money - using this proof, sue them, have all your friends sue them, put the vampires out of business. Consult with a lawyer.
