Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Nevada

I live in NV and my husband died 1 1/2 yrs ago. I did get some money from life insurance he had. However, lawyers have been sending me bills that I guess my husband had charged on credit cards he had gotten in both of our names but I've NEVER used them or knew about them. Am I entirely liable for those bills. There is nothing left in his estate.

This is most likely how the creditors would view the debt. If your husband named you on the credit cards as his wife they will say they relied on both you and he to pay them back. There are some exceptions, but for the most part, a wife, is liable for the debts of the husband. One spouse for another. You might try calling or writing the debt collectors and telling them that if they are in fact your husband's credit cards, and you don't know if they are, that you knew nothing about them and you never applied or agreed to apply for them. Tell them there is no money available. They may try to settle with you for a percentage of the bill, they may sue you. Ask them to show you verification that the debt is yours. Then wait and see what happens. They often can not verify the credit application - your signature we presume is not on it. They may, or may not, drop the collection all together.
