Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Nevada

Medical Bill from 1994

I received a bill today for $1300 for an emergency surgery I had in 1994 in LasVegas. United Healthcare paid all bills. The doctor is stating this was not paid by insurance, however, I have not received any communication from the doctor or the insurance company in 13 years. Am I liable for this bill?

Six years in Nevada as well. If you get sued, you should hire an attorney to save you the trip to Las Vegas and you should get your attorney's fees back.

Re: Medical Bill from 1994

It's a bit of a tricky question, since the services were performed in Nevada and, presumably, you currently are a resident of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. Thus, the issue becomes which statute of limitations governs the bill for services. If Massachusetts law governs, you would not be liable on the bill since an action on an unliquidated debt is barred after six years (M.G.L. Chapter 260, Section 2).
