Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Nevada

My mother lent me money, I signed a letter saying I owe her the money and I would promise to pay it back. When I did that she was a different last name than she is now. Also it was 5 years ago. She is asking me for a new letter because she says she needs to give it to the person that is doing trust papers for her. I think she is just saying that for an excuse and not sure why. I totally plan on paying it back I would never try to get out of it. We have had a very good relationship our whole life. She is now married to a guy that has many times swindled money from people on fake investments including my father who is now passed away. This man has in the past gone to jail for it. I'm afraid he is telling my mom to get a letter from me again for some other reason and I'm not sure why? She says it has to have the previous date of 2005 when I took the money but has to be dated today. I don't know why she is asking for it this way. I'm not sure if she is worried since her name is different or maybe she thinks there is a time period that this note will expire. I don't mind doing another note for her since I'm more than willing to pay it back I just worry what they are really doing with it. I'm not sure what the note should say to keep from me getting involved with something else or keep me from having to do something that isn't listed in note? My husband is wondering if they owe someone money and they are giving our note to them to pay them? We don't know why they would need it for trust papers? Why would it have to have the date I took the money but signed today? I'm very confused and worried about who they are really giving it to. Not sure what I should do or say in note? Not sure I need a lawyer in this to keep from something we aren't expecting happen to us. Thanks Danielle I wasn't sure which type of lawyer to choose?

If you don't sign a new note or haven't made a payment, after six years, your mom can't sue for the statute of limitation. If you sign a new note with the old date being referenced in the new note but you put a 2010 date, she will have until 2016 to sue you. You need real legal advice since you are confused and worry about who they are really giving it to.
