An acquaintance has been notified by mail that a summons is trying to be served on him and published in a legal newspaper for four weeks. What happens at the end of the four weeks if he does not respond? Thank you.

He will be defaulted and the plaintiff will get a judgment against him. Then they will start to collect by garnishing wages, attaching bank accounts, etc. This is not something that he should ignore and he should probably see an attorney pretty quickly.
