Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Nevada

Towing bill collection

I sold a vehicle in Neavada in 1999. In January, 2002 the vehicle was towed and then sold at auction to cover the expences. I received a collections letter from a California company (I live in Nevada) stating that I owe $1,500. in tow bills because the auction proceeds did not cover the total bill. The collections company is also stating that I am listed as the responsible party with the Nevada DMV. This is the first notice I received of the tow, the auction, or that I allegedly owe money. How do I fight this?

Thank you!

Re: Towing bill collection

NAC 487.030 Fee for towing abandoned vehicle. An automobile wrecker may only charge $55 for towing an

abandoned vehicle regardless of the time of day, the distance to the vehicle or the type of equipment used to tow the vehicle.
