Only if he has probable cause to detain you when he calls the owner.

Your question is a little confusing but I will answer best I can.
If a police officer has lawfully stopped you, like speeding or other traffic violation, and knows that you are not the owner of the car, the officer may attempt to gain permission to search the vehicle from the owner.
