Legal Question in Criminal Law in Nevada

Martial arts and self defense

Hello,

I am martial artist in the Reno/ Sparks area of Nevada. I will be teaching a class on self defense. My question is this:

If I am physically attacked, can I defend myself without be charged with assault and battery?

I have been told by a non-lawyer that I can be charged, so I want to know what my rights are. This is both for my benefit and the benefit of my students.

Thank you,

Re: Martial arts and self defense

The law allows one to use reasonable self defense. However, a professionally trained fighter or martial arts person may be capable of using deadly force. This force can only be used under certain cirumstances. For example, is a drunk swings at you, you would not be allowed to maim or kill him. However, if you are attacked with a knife or gun you may be able to use deadly force. A reasonable response is what self defense law is about.
