Legal Question in Criminal Law in Nevada
In order for something to be considered petty theft, don't you have to leave the
I am a student at UNLV in Las Vegas, Nevada. At the library I was reading a book from the library. I had to go bathroom so I put the book in my bag and decided to leave the library after a while forgetting about the book in my bag. I set off the security scanners at the exit, and was approached. I realized I had the book, and went to set it down. I now am being charged with petty theft, but am not guilty. I never left the building. What do I do?

Plead not guilty and get a trial date. Usually on the first offense if you go to Petty Larceny School through the Court they will dismiss the charge upon completion of the class.
