Legal Question in Criminal Law in Nevada
can a personal injury lawyer defend somebody in a criminal trial?
1 Answer from Attorneys
There's no rule against it, but most personal injury lawyers wouldn't know how to defend a criminal case.
Lawyers are licensed to practice law generally, not to handle particular types of cases. Some types of work require an additional license beyond what all lawyers have. But criminal defense and personal injury law do not. There is no such thing as a lawyer who is licensed to practice personal injury law but not criminal law, or vice versa.
Any particular licensed attorney will know how to practice some types of law and not others. There are quite a few who are able to defend criminal cases and bring personal injury cases. Some are very good in both of these areas. But most who know one do not know the other very well.
