At what age can a minor decide which parent they want to live with? And if the minor makes that choice will the parent have to pay child support?

We have no "magic age"; our statute includes the child's wishes (if "of suitable age and discretion") as one of many factors to be considered in custody change proceeding. The test is considered a tough one, recited as a mantra under a 40-year old case, modified slightly in a newer case (Ellis) which is posted, along with the controlling statutes and much other material on the Child Custody page of our firm website:

And normally a non-custodial parent pays the custodial parent support irrespective of the reason for the custodial placement. For details:
