Legal Question in Family Law in Nevada
Annullment in the state of Nevada
Wife is 21, was forced to marry 40 year old man, in Nevada, but they live in California. She was 7 months pregnant at the time. Man was incarcerated 2 weeks after ''marriage'', the ''marriage'' was never consumated (after ''marriage'')as she was pregnant and did not and could not have sex. He wanted possesssion and control over her and has a history of beating her. He forced her to marry him to be his possession. His background is Middle Eastern. He got out of jail after a few months, and after the baby was born. Shortly after he returned, he locked her in his garage with him for a few months. In December, they were arrested together. He stayed in jail and she left, never to return to him again. They never paid for the marriage certificate and she thought it wouldn't be turned it; unfortunatley it was (as the fly by night minister felf sorry for them). She never changed her last name to his, as she didn't want it to appear they were married. She only ''married'' him to avoid a beating. Her child has HER last name, and does not appear to be his child. His name is not on the baby's birth certificate either. How do I assist her with getting an annullment in California??

It would be easier for her to get an annulment by publication in Nevada.

I suggest that you take her to an experienced family law lawyer and empower her with information so that she can make her own decisions.
Good luck to you.
