Legal Question in Family Law in Nevada

Annulment/Personal Escrow????

This question pertains to Nevada AND New York. It was flagged as ''wrong state'' before so I changed it but both he and I live in NY currently.

Long story short - 8 years ago married a man in Las Vegas, never lived together. Over the years he was always unreliable, not returning messages or showing up when he said he would, out of the U.S. for many years etc...

Tracked him down two years ago, his lawyer worked up an annulment case (took so long b/c he would vanish when he needed to sign). Now the court in Vegas wants him (just him) to appear. He says he can't afford the plane ticket.

Is there a way I can put money for half the ticket in something like escrow?

Where he would buy it on credit card and then get reimbursed for half only after submitting proof that he actually went to court?

Re: Annulment/Personal Escrow????

Is it possible? Yes. Will putting money is escrow this way accomplish what you want it to? Impossible to say.

Your first step is to determine which state has jurisdiction. If both you and your spouse are in New York, NY may no longer has jurisdiction over the divorce/annulment. You should retain NV counsel to determine if NV is the proper state, and if so, that attorney should be able to hold the funds in escrow. You might need a written agreement as well.

If NV is not the right state, you should investigate filing for a divorce in New York.
