An answer is a document that responds to a complaint. You have 20 days to file it or the spouse may take a default against you. An opposition is an answer to a motion.

You should hire an attorney to help you because your life is too important to not do this properly. At worst, go to the self help center and they can provide you a form that will help you prepare an answer.
