You may want to consider trying to petition to terminate the natural father's parental rights and then you can change your child's name. Unfortunately, you would have to give the father notice of those proceedings. Going underground may cause you problems as the father may try to say that you're interfering with his custodial rights. If you file a change of name petition the Court would require you to give notice to the father as well. Our justice system is based upon notice and an opportunity to be heard, but still I suggest you go through the Courts rather than going underground.
