Legal Question in Family Law in Nevada

Child custody

I have custody of my 8 yr old daughter. If I move w/her to Las Vegas (from Maryland) can my mother just take her from me? She says she can.

Re: Child custody

Thank you for your inquiry.

I would need to speak to you further about what custodial rights your mother has with your daughter. Typically, grandparents have no legal grounds to prevent parents from moving out of state with their children. She would only be able to prevent you from doing so if she has adopted or has a guardianship of your daughter.

If you have an out of state order you could petition Las Vegas for temporary, emergency jurisdiction under certain circumstances.

Contact my office if you'd like to discuss your matter more fully.

Re: Child custody

Does your mother have any rights in your daughter that were given by a judge. If she does not, there is nothing that she can do.
