Legal Question in Family Law in Nevada

Credit Cards bills go to Who

I will be filing for divorce soon, almost all our credit card bill are on my cards. We pay our bills on the web and I was wondering if I went on line and balanced transfered half of the bill to one of her card of which I go on line and pay each month but is in her name only whould it be illegal? I don't need trouble in my life, I'm not trying to be mean but only fair. A bill is a bill and in my last divorce I paid all the bills off and it took me a long time and I'm not a kid anymore and the bill is about $10,000. The divorce is not because of something I did but it's time for me to move on, I don't deserve this in my life after all I've done for her. Any help you could offer would really be appreciated. Everything I do I want to be inside the law, I've never seen the inside of a jail and never want to. I'm leaving her almost everything in the house which in dollars adds up to a lot but she still wants me to pay all the bills and that's not right. She in good with her car and I'm about $6,000 upside down with my SUV but I'll suck it up because I do need a vehicle but the credit card bills are different, PLEASE HELP ME. Email me if you need more info or if you have an answer PLEASE!!

Re: Credit Cards bills go to Who

Regarding the bills: Nevada is a 50/50 state. That means, by statute, community property and community property bills are to be divided equally. You should speak to an attorney about your options as soon as possible and before taking any of the options you have written about in your inquiry.

Re: Credit Cards bills go to Who

Since it is a community property state it is irrelevant whose name the credit card debt is in. Don't change anything. She is responsible for half the bills no matter whose name it is in.
