Legal Question in Family Law in Nevada

When I divorced 24 years ago my son was young and I did not opt to take back my maiden name (birth name). He is grown and in todays world last names don't matter so I want to revert to t. Do I have to go through the court system or does the law allow me to use the name on my brith certificate without legal filings?

If your divorce decree is 24 years old and said nothing about restoring your maiden name, and if you ever took your husband's last name and used it for legal documents -- driver's licenses, passports, employment applications, Social Security, etc. -- then it would be advisable to do a formal name change at this point back to your maiden name to avoid running into problems with those bureaucracies when the records they have on you do not match up.
