Legal Question in Family Law in Nevada

Emancipated Child

After 7 years of concealment by the custodial parent, we finally got a phone call from my husbands daughter (age 17). She has graduated from high school and is living on her own, holding a full time job. The divorce decree states that support shall continue until "said minor child reaches the age of majority, marries or otherwise becomes emancipated". Are we obligated to continue paying support for a child no longer living with the custodial parent? Would not this situation constitute "emancipation"?

Re: Emancipated Child

The situation you describe is arguably emancipation, but there are no guarantees. It is what I would call a "tryable issue." Technically, emancipation is a court order saying that a child is emancipated and free from parental control.
