Legal Question in Family Law in Nevada

embryo donation/adoption

A couple we know wants to donate a frozen embryo leftover from their IVF cycle to my husband and me. We need to keep expenses as low as possible since our insurance will not cover anything to do with infertility. If we use a sample embryo donation contract we find, adapt it for our needs, and both couples sign and notarize it, is it a binding legal document? Or MUST we pay an attorney $600 to $1000 (we were quoted) to do this for us in order to be ensured it is legal and binding in court and protect us and the resulting child if there is one? The embryo is in Nevada and the medical procedure to transfer the embryo to my uterus would occur there.

Re: embryo donation/adoption

It seems that any agreement would be governed by Nevada law. As I am not competent to comment on such matters I suggest you contact a Nevada practitioner who is familiar with these matters.

Most any contract is legal and binding absent some legal objection no matter how unfair it later seems to be. Form contracts found on the internet vary widely in quality, I would avoid them.
