Emergency temp guardianship

My Niece is scheduled for open heart surgery, she needs this imediately, we cannot locate her Mother and the hospital is indicating she needs to be there. The chlds mother is an Addict and is on the streets somewhere, what can we do to get a temp guardianship fast that would allow us to sign for her surgery, we will then proceed in getting a more permanant guardianship after her surgery. Please help with some advice we do not know what to do?

You would need to petition Family Court for an Order Granting Temporary Guardianship of your niece. In situations like yours, the Court is fairly efficient in scheduling expedited hearings to handle medical emergencies.
