Legal Question in Family Law in Nevada

Father not on birth cert-what are his rights?

I want to know what recourse, if any, my child's father would have if he wanted to seek visitation and/or joint custody down the road. He isn't on birth cert, lives in a different state, and has only seen the child once since the birth. Has never paid support. We have been friends and never hostile toward each other though we don't stay in touch hardly at all. He called recently to inquire how I'd feel about him being on the child's birth cert-very random so I want to educate myself should he be planning to seek visitation. I did not answer him about putting him on but I do not want to put him on. Am I obligated? He has never contested paternity but I still do not want to put him on. Thank you for your time.

Re: Father not on birth cert-what are his rights?

Since the science of DNA is so accurate the name appearing on the birth certificate is irrelevant. If he is the natural father per DNA testing then he has rights as a father same as if he was married. Unless his parental rights are terminated he is entitled to visitation and he is obligated to pay child support.
