Legal Question in Family Law in Nevada

Fee

My xhusband owed me money, in

marital settlement agreement he

was to pay the money w/in 6 months

of date of agreement. A year passed

& he had yet to pay me. In the

agreement there was no stipulation

as to what would transpire had he

not paid w/in the 6 months. I called

the lawyer that did our marital

settlement agreement to ask & he

said we could go after him for the

money. I spoke to him on the phone

for less than 5 min. & said that I

think I want to do it so he sent via

email a retainer agreement & asked

that I sign it & drop off a check at his

ofc. I gave it some thought & the

next day I had a question that would

determine whether I would go

forward or not. I called several times,

emailed several times with no

response. I called again & spoke to a

gal in their ofc & told her the

situation, question I had & that

nobody was responding. She said she

didn't want to turn away bus. but I

didn't need to spend money to chase

money, said I could do it myself &

gave me website or I cld go to self-

help at fam ct. I didn't sign retainer

or give any money as I did not want

to move forward. They are trying to

charge me $1500. I believe I

am not liable for this money.

Re: Fee

It is hard to tell from your message, if you signed the retainer agreement or not. You should contact the attorney or his assistant to see what work was done on your behalf and get a copy the bill. If you are unable to get any satisfaction then you can contact the State Bar Fee Dispute for help.
