Legal Question in Family Law in Nevada

My friend is German and lives in Germany and is married there with two children, but wants a fast divorce and in Germany it can take from 2 to 3 years. Can she come to Nevada and file for divorce here ? I herd she can and it will only take 6 months, So some one can divorce in USA if not from here and married there?

There is no requirement that one be from here, or married here, to divorce here. But it is not quite that simple. The residential period to file divorce is 6 weeks, not 6 months, and if unopposed can go through by default. Details are posted at http://www.willicklawgroup.com/divorce.

However, the court, if the defendant does not voluntarily appear, would have jurisdiction only to change status -- not to affect issues such as child custody, visitation or support, alimony, or distribution of property located elsewhere. For an explanation, see the article titled "The Basics of Family Law Jurisdiction," on the Published Works page of our firm web site, at http://www.willicklawgroup.com/published_works.

Of course, if the children live here for six months before anyone files anything anywhere, Nevada would be the Home State and therefore could order matters relating to custody. See the same article.
