Legal Question in Family Law in Nevada

Do the grandparents and father have any legal rights over a baby. The baby's father is not on the birth certificate. A paternity test was done, but the mother has not seen the results and it is on the word of the father that he is the father.

Not quite enough information to to answer the lead question.

Until and unless the father is named as the father, by way of a court order, or by affidavit of paternity signed by both parents, he has no custodial rights, and his parents' rights of access are derivative of his (and could be cut off completely if, say, the mother put the child up for adoption before the father/grandparents acted.

The facts drive the law, so whoever has the test results should share them.

A pretty complete explanation, links to the relevant statutes, etc., is set out on our web site, at http://www.willicklawgroup.com/paternity.

Much of the law governing grandparental custody and visitation is set out on the Child Custody page of our firm website, at http://www.willicklawgroup.com/child_custody_visitation.

You should probably seek consultation with an appropriate family law specialist. If you decide you would like to discuss this with one of the attorneys of this firm, please take a look at our consultation policies, procedures, and costs, at http://www.willicklawgroup.com/consultation_policies.
