Legal Question in Family Law in Nevada

Hi,

I am planning to divorce my wife in a month or so. One thing she asked me to find out was confidentiality of divorce record. I did some research online and found out about "sealing a file". Is it hard to seal a file in Nevada? It seems that you have to have a good reason to do so such as you own a business that involves secret information, etc. What is a good reason for us? My wife just wants to do it quietly so that our family member won't find out.

thank you.

No . . . no "reason" is necessary in Nevada, and the file can be sealed as a matter of right, upon request. While that will prevent it from coming up in computer searches, it is still discoverable by anyone willing to take the time to find out, but the filings in the case itself would not be given out except to the parties, their attorneys, or someone with a court order showing some reason they needed to know.
