Legal Question in Family Law in Nevada
When I hired my divorce attorney, he asked for a $3000 retainer and told me I could reasonably expect to receive a portion of that back. After we reached a settlement with my now ex-husband, I received a bill from him for $4000 more. Nothing in the case had changed from my original consultation. I have asked him for an itemized summary - and have only received a bill for an additional $300. Do I have any recourse?

Yes. Obviously, your cheapest and easiest route to a remedy is to have a direct, candid conversation with your lawyer, as calmly as possible raising the above points and requesting an explanation. it is always possible that there has simply been a mistake, or that there is an explanation that would be acceptable to you.
Failing that, there is a formal mechanism for fee disputes available through the Nevada State Bar, which can be accessed by phone ((702)-382-2200) or on line (http://www.nvbar.org/feedispute.htm).
