Legal Question in Family Law in Nevada
Illegal divorce in Nevada while married in California
Hi,
My husband and I both reside in California and have been married 30 years. In 1995 he secretly began having an affair and filed a divorce decree in Nevada without my knowledge. Earlier this year when I learned of his on going affair, I filed for separation and that is when he presented his divorce decree to the court. We both own properties and it is obvious he did this to prevent me from contesting ownership of them or collecting alimony.
My lawyer here in California has advised me that I need to retain an attorney that is licensed either solely in Nevada or has both a CA/NV license so that the false divorce decree could be dismissed.
s there an attorney here that is licensed in both Nevada and California that practices family law that would be willing to take my case or could refer me? My email address is ykhan209 at hotmail dot com(listed in my profile as well).
Thank you.

Re: Illegal divorce in Nevada while married in California
The Nevada divorce is probably not valid. But even if it was valid you should qualify as a putative spouse. As a putative spouse you would have the same rights as a spouse. You should act quickly to protect you assets.
