Legal Question in Family Law in Nevada
I have been married for 24 years, and have not worked outside of the home for 20 years. I have been raising three kids. What are my rights as far as spousal support, alimony. I have one minor child and two college students. Can my husband start a divorce with me having no means of support?

Yes, he can start the divorce, but a good attorney should get you temporary alimony, exclusive possession of the residence and attorney's fees within weeks of the divorce being started. Your permanent alimony should be for the rest of your life and the amount is based upon how much he earns, how much of increase of salary occurred while you were married and how much property you two have to divide.

With respect to the other answer, I concur that your husband is free to start a divorce action, but it is not possible to predict outcomes from that limited amount of information. For example, you do not say how old everyone involved is; if everyone is retired, and essentially will be dividing the retirement payment streams, there may be no resource from which alimony could be paid. I suggest you start with some reading; you will find much useful information about alimony on the Spousal Support and Alimony page of our firm website, at http://www.willicklawgroup.com/spousal_support_alimony. From the information you provided, you should also review the information set out on the Child Custody (http://www.willicklawgroup.com/child_custody_visitation) and Child Support (http://www.willicklawgroup.com/child_support) pages of the web site.
Feel free to look around; the information about motion practice, property division, etc., is also relevant to you.
