Legal Question in Family Law in Nevada
Medical bills & noterized Guardianship.
Sept 05 my nephew who is 15 was hit by a car while riding his bike home from school and suffered a broken leg, my husband & I at the time only had a noterized paper from my sister giving us temporary guardainship of him so we could enroll him in school and get him medical treatment if needed for emergancies while he lived with us due to family problems at his home.
Because of this accident we now have over $4.000.00 in medical bills and I'm starting to get bill collector calling saying I have to pay those bills. As of Dec 05 My husband & I were granted court appointed guardianship of our Nephew and we now have him on our insurance & pay for all medical needs from Dec 05 on to now.
My question to you is when I only had Noterized temporary guarianship from my sister was I then to be responsible for any medical bills that would occur during that time or are they my sisters responsibility?
I need to know because I'm being harrassed by collectors.
I gave summerlin Hospital all my sisters information for billing when we arrived in the ER that afternoon so I don't know why they are calling me about it.
Thank you so much for your time & any help you can give.

Re: Medical bills & noterized Guardianship.
If the driver is at fault for hitting your nephew you can seek reimbursement from that individual for medical bills and pain and suffering. Also, your sister should check with her insurance agent to see if she had medpay as part of her car insurance which might cover your nephew. Alternatively, you can contact the Consumer Health Assistance Bureau for Hospital Patients (this site doesn't allow us to post telephone numbers)
