Legal Question in Family Law in Nevada

property

I bought a house prior to my marriage, this was solely in my name, then my wife was added to the title,we have been married for 1 year she has never worked.we have no children together,can she still claim 1/2 the property after the divorce, she has never contributed to the house.Can she be awarded Alimony?

Why did you put her on title? If this was a gift, she can probably claim half the house, if you did it to refinance and the lender required it, then she would be entitled to one-half of the principal payments paid during the year and one-half of the appreciation.

She might be awarded alimony for six months to get back on her feet, especially if she was working when you got married and you asked her to quit. It should only enough to allow her to get an apartment and get a job and car.

Unfortunately yes once you add her to the title the presumption is that you intended to gift her one half of the equity in the house (less your separate property down payment). To overcome this presumption you have to show through clear and convincing evidence that this was not your intent--a hard hurdle to overcome. She might also be entitled to very temporary alimony to get her back on her feet if she has been unemployed for a year.
