Legal Question in Family Law in Nevada

Quit claim question

When we were married 16 years ago, my wife was was buying the home we're in now. We took a bill consolidation loan out approx. 5 years after we married and at that time she had me sign a quit claim to the home. We later refinanced the first to shorten our term. The loan and trust deed are now paid off and we own the home outright. Now we are divorcing and she says I have no interests to the home. I've spent countless hours remodeling, building an addition, and doing maintenance. The home is worth approx. twice it's market price when we married. What are my rights here?

Re: Quit claim question

Nevada's community property laws may provide you with an interest in the home depending on several additional factors which were not discussed in your question. A quitclaim deed would not prevent you from ascerting an

interest in the property and the Court would look at the totality of the circumstances under which the quitclaim deed was signed and how the loans against the property were held. The calculation of any interest you may have in the property is too complicated to discuss in an this response. Please feel free to contact me directly to discuss this further.
