what do i do when im served court papers?

You need to prepare a written response according to the time deadlines stated in the paperwork.

File the written response paying the appropriate filing fee and serve the other side.

If you don't do all of this and do it correctly, you could lose and the other side gets everything they asked for.

You need to respond within 20 days, IN WRITING, unless you were also served with an Order that requires you to respond sooner. If there is a Motion as well as a complaint, you need to respond within 10 days.

If you don't understand my answer, you need to hire an attorney to represent you. I would not suggest even going to a paralegal as the stakes are too high.
