State to State question
I got married to my husband in California, but I am now residing in Nevada, can I file for Divorce in Nevada?

In addition to what Ms. Webster said, if there is property in California, your house, his retirement or other things to be divided, as well as alimony, it is probably best that you do it in California. If you need an attorney, I have done about 20 divorces in California and maintain my California license.

You normally file for divore in the state where you live currently not the state where you were married. Since you live in Nevada now, you would normally want to file in Nevada. However, there might be reasons to file in California. For example, if your spouse continues to reside in California and he has never resided in Nevada, Nevada would not have jurisdiction over him and you could get only a "status" divorce in Nevada; if you have children and they have lived in California for the preceding 6 months; or if you have not resided in Nevada for at least 6 continuance weeks.
